Surprises

R and I went to brunch this morning, and then we headed over to the hardware store to get a new sprayer for the hose.  Lowes causes my allergies to act up if they have been cutting a lot of wood, and today they had been.  So I decided to head over to World Market while he looked around.  Between the two is a pet store, and they had an animal rescue group with dogs.

Now if you had asked me what I was going to come home with today, the very last thing I would have said was a new dog.  Especially since I have two of them.  But life has a way of throwing things at you when you least expect them.

So we have a new addition to the family.  Don't ask me why...he was a rescue dog and I am a big softie.  He doesn't have a name yet.  But he is a very sweet dog.  We are in the learning curve, but I think he will work out just fine.  R missed having a bigger dog ever since we lost Boris and Chyna, so he has a new buddy.

Actually since my last post life threw something else at us out of the blue, that we certainly weren't expecting. A member of our immediate family was arrested for committing a very large crime.  Now it wasn't murder or anything like that, but it's quite serious all the same and we are trying to deal with it since we had absolutely no idea they had done anything wrong.  We don't see them that often and they live several states away.  There are a vast array of emotions that go with it, and quite honestly I am not sure what we should be feeling right now.

I have never known anyone (at least not that I was aware of) who committed a big crime before and so this has thrown us for quite a loop.  We are feeling angry, betrayed, shocked, sad...you name it.  Also we have been asked to help financially which put us in a very awkward spot.  If you read my blog you know about the insurance not paying for my dental work and the camera and all the junk I have been going through lately.  But it's family so R feels obligated, although we aren't really sure we want to because it's not the same issue as if they had an accident, illness or disaster of some sort.  If that was the case we would work it out without hesitation.  We are just floundering with all this really because it's stressful and confusing.  So that's why I haven't posted for a few days.

Today though we are going to barbecue and train...and hopefully name the new doggie and try to keep some semblance of sanity and normalcy.

I hope you all have a lovely, safe and wonderful 4th of July!  Hugs, K. <3

PS...if anyone has a nice name for the puppy, by all means leave me a comment!

What a lovely dog, he seems meant to be. Probably just what you need this weekend.

He's a gorgeous dog and reminds me of a dog I was loved...his name was Shaka. He's gone now but left a very lasting impression on everyone he knew.

Good luck with the difficult decision you have on whether to help out your family member or not. It must be very hard for you.

You follow my blog right? Handcrafted Teddy Bears by Michelle? I see you're not entered in my Blog Giveaway...you are now...good luck!

Hugs,

Hi!

I discovered your blog not long ago and had not taken time to browse it yet. This is my first stop on it.

This new doggie you adopted is a real beauty. Why not naming him Angel? He arrived in your life when you really were in need for happy things to change your mind. I am sure he will bring you a lot of happy moments.

Now concerning the hard time caused by this family member, I have no idea what to say... I just hope things will eventually get back to kind of normal without too much harm done. When money gets involved it can bring quite annoying situations between family member.
Good luck dealing with it!

Bear hugs,
Sophie.

Aww, what a sweet looking dog.

Hugs over your difficult situation, it's most unfair when family demands things like that

Wow.. I can see why that particular dog came home with you- what a precious beautiful face and wonderful soft ears. I wouldn't have been able to leave that face either! I just found your blog this week and I love everything about it. Your honesty is amazing and your sense of humor is so great. I used to live in Woodland Park (up the hill from you- for over 10 years before we had to move) and so I loved the Vampire/car chase story as well. As for the family member issue.. my husband and I try to determine giving help by whether or not it was their choice.. ie. illness or getting laid off at work wasn't something they chose- but committing a crime or hurting their family by their actions (such as abusing alcohol, etc.) was their choice and so they need to face up to their actions and sometimes the only way they can do that is to have to live with the consequences of their choices. I know I "just met" you but I really feel for you and your husband in this situation. I hope you will be able to come to a decision together that makes sense to both of you in the midst of that heartbreaking news.
& Please tell us on your blog what you decide to call that beautiful dog. Thanks! Best wishes for you, Kristi

We too just got a new rescue dog on 4th of July. Lots littler than yours but rescue pups are so appreciative of our love. You and your family are truly blessed by your act of kindness. Linda

As a dog rescuer, I am happy that Ripley ended up in such a loving home. It is unusual for rescues (around here) to send one of their babies home same day. We do a lot of phone calls and check vet references and make sure people are not renting and can not have a pet. We check city records and call landlords. We've been accused that adopting a pet is harder than adopting a child.
I am sure they could tell what a wonderful family you are.

Oh- and the PP who said giving money depending upon the reason (personal choice, or illness or whatever) makes good points.
If you believe the relative is not guilty, help them out. If you think they are capable and want to know more, explain that you are also suffering hard times and it will take a while to be able to get things together. That will give you time to find out more and make an informed decision.
Just being related does not make one obligated.

Oh my god! That dog looks exactly like my sister's! Animals definitely come into my life when I go through something hard - it seems like the same is happening to you! You love Teddy Bears so much ... would you name him Teddy Bear, or something along that line?

Anyhow, I'm sorry to hear about the problems with your family ... I know it's personal, but if you ever want to confide in an unbiased person, I would love to hear more of the details. I understand if you don't want to elaborate of course, but I'm often the one people confide in.

Thanks so much for following my blog by the way. I noticed in your profile that you said you try to recreate childhood fantasies - that's what I try to do with my arts and crafts a lot. Lately I focus on particular stories I like and try to make them feel like they are true, and that places like Wonderland and Oz are real by creating artifacts from such places.

Well, I look forward to reading your blog more.

Love, Lilly
