Show-In-The-Dark

I got home from the Kansas City Teddy Bear Jubilee yesterday and I wanted to make a post, but I was SOOO tired!  I find that driving that hard on so little sleep really took it out of me.  I guess I am not as young as I used to be despite the fact that everyone I hadn't seen in years said I look exactly the same except that my hair is even longer. 

Now on to the show...the banquet the night before was lots of fun, but I was exhausted and didn't stay for the auction.  The next morning I got up and started getting ready.  I was dressed and thought I would run my suitcase and laptop out to the car before finishing up with my makeup.  That way I could check out and only have to fuss with my duffel bag.  At the last second I decided to run the curling iron through my bangs. 

When I got back to the room the power was out.  As it turned out, it was out for the entire area, not just our hotel.  Thank goodness I decided to do my bangs before I went out!

The show had a nice crowd when it opened, better than the previous year from what people said.  Sadly we were in the dark for the first three hours.  I had a flashlight in my purse, but it's hard to buy bears when you can't really see them. 

The power finally returned and we still had a pretty good show.  I took some pics, and I have to apologize in advance.  I had bought a little camera for traveling and this was the first time I had used it, so some of the pics aren't that good.  But it was nice to see some old friends and make some new friends!

Ken Yenke and his lovely wife did a program on Saturday.  Unfortunately I didn't arrive in time to attend, but from what everyone said it was quite good.  He is holding a 1920's Petz bear that managed to make his way home with me!

I was right next to Martha Burch who is always so much fun.  And no she wasn't sleeping...I just managed to snap the pic when she blinked!

On the other side of me was Bettina Groh from Glass Dragon Bears.  Her bears are every bit as sweet as she is!

It was also nice to see Virginia Jasmer.  She is just lovely and I have missed seeing her.

Terri Larson was really adverse to having her pic taken.  I tried three times and this was the best I could get!  She is so silly...and was always one of my very favorite people.  So it was fun to see her again.

I met Tyler Crain-Davis from Teds 'n Such for the first time.  He is just a doll and I liked him immediately!

Isabella Hoffman of Bearly Collectibles was also new to me, but I found myself drooling over several pieces she had.  If only I could have brought home everything I wanted!

Somehow I never managed to take a pic of my own table, but you can see it from the side behind Bettina's table. 

Quite a few pieces did get adopted, but I do have some new pieces that are still waiting for that special person.  (Yes Gideon the Gargoyle is still waiting too...which surprises me considering how many ardent admirers he had.)  So I will have those photographed and posted to the  blog and site hopefully in the next day or two.

Also I came home with a trunk FULL of mohair, so I should have a surprise coming for the rest of you very soon...as soon as I can get it done.  I will be working on that along with pics today since R is out of town.

American Idol

I have to tell ya, I have been working like a mad woman this week.  I have gotten so much done it's amazing.  I still have a ways to go, but I can tell you that the bears for the online show turned out really nicely.  I have three new little ones and they are so sweet.  Their pics just don't do any of them justice despite photographing them several times on several backgrounds.  I am addicted to making them though.  I LOVE this new size, and I hope you will too.  While I have been working I have been watching a lot of TV.

I have never watched American Idol in seasons past.  I couldn't stand Simon in commercials let alone to watch him on the show.  But when they switched things up this year I decided to watch.  They added Stephen Tyler to the mix, and I am a product of that era so naturally I love Aerosmith.  Besides I figured he could be pretty entertaining to watch.  I was right, he is very cool.  I really didn't know anything about Jennifer Lopez other than she was famous for her posterior.  But I have to say I like how she deals with people as well.  She is sweet and funny and not cruel.  Randy Jackson confuses me.  I didn't even know he was a previous judge and honestly I thought he was just an actor. 

So tonight was the finals of who gets to be on the show.  I had all the guys picked except Stefano.  I thought sure it was going to be Brett.  I really think he deserved a chance on the show.  There was something very appealing and honest about that kid, and I am really sorry he didn't make it through.  I even went online and voted for him.  I never vote for anything like that.

The girls I had a couple of them picked right and I wasn't sure about the rest.  The one that I would have rather not made it was Haley.  I don't know why, her voice is incredible but there is something about her that just doesn't ring true with me.  I can't put my finger on what it is.  So I am going to continue watching for the rest of the season.  I really like Paul and Scott, and I hope they do well.  I like Nayima too.  I hope one of those three wins at this point.

I do admire them all though, I have told you before if I could change one thing about myself it would be to have the ability to sing.  I have no illusions about my voice, it's terrible.  As my Grandma used to say, I can't carry a tune in a bucket.  Neither can R.  We will just never make beautiful music.

Oh well I guess I better get back to what I can make though, and that's bears!

~ 30th Anniversary Bears Update ~

It's very rare that I make an "edition" bear, but thirty years is a very rare thing too.  So I have one bear for each decade.  They area slightly different, but the same.

I am very pleased with them, so without further ado...let me introduce you to the very first bears of 2011; Tivoli, Apollo, and Savoy.  They are named after theaters.  I don't know why, it just seemed like the thing.

There was actually going to be a new little animal in this update, but he didn't quite get finished since I redid the website layout too.  I will offer him on my blog in a few days.

Website Update

I have decided to make a few changes for 2011.  The first of which is instead of putting each piece up as I make it, I am going to try group updates every 4-6 weeks.  I may do an occasional blog and facebook offering as well.

This one is only going to be a very small update, but I will have the 30th anniversary bears ready...and possibly something brand new to show you!  We will see how the week goes since I am working on a new layout as well.

I am also going to be doing a show in Philadelphia in May...I will give more details on that later. I haven't done a show in a few years and I miss it.

Also the next group of bears and animals will be going out on Wednesday instead of tomorrow.  I was going to go to the post office tomorrow, but it's supposed to be coooooold.  We are expected to have a high of 0, and with the wind chill between 15 and 18 below.  Winter has finally hit Colorado.  I had a feeling we had been getting off too easy this year.

It's snowing today, so it's a good day to stay snug and cozy at home and work.  I am very excited about the anniversary bears.  I hope you will be too!
